Process, approach, and outcomes:
The Hub is eBay’s intranet, used by every employee and recognised with a Nielsen Norman Group intranet design award. Its homepage is where the working day starts: news, tools, people. Engagement was low and trending down: people weren’t clicking into news or scrolling past the first screen, so company news, events and internal communication weren’t landing.
Working with stakeholders, I synthesised usage data and employee feedback, then took the homepage from wireframes through prototypes to refined mockups: a personalised greeting and daily snapshot, editorial news modules with clear visual hierarchy, quick links to the most-used tools, and meetings surfaced right on the page.
Rather than handing over static mocks, I coded a working prototype of the redesigned homepage with the real layout, interactions and content. Stakeholders could click through the actual page, and engineering had a precise reference for the build.
A complete redesign of the Hub homepage which, three months after launch, showed a 14% increase in web traffic, an 18% increase in user engagement, and a 20% increase in time spent on page.
